Should I disassemble furniture before transporting it?
I’m in the middle of planning a move to a new apartment across town, and now I’m stuck thinking about the furniture. Last time I moved, I didn’t take anything apart and it turned into a bit of a circus. My bookshelf barely fit through the doorway, and we scratched the wall trying to twist it around the corner. This time I have a bed frame, a large desk, and a wardrobe that looks solid but probably comes apart. I’ve been reading some tips about preparing items for transport, and they mention measuring doorways and protecting surfaces, which makes sense. Still, I’m not sure if disassembling everything is worth the time and effort. Did you take your furniture apart when you moved, or just wrap and carry it as is?

When I moved last summer, I had the same debate with myself. At first I thought I’d save time by leaving things assembled, but in the end taking apart the bigger pieces actually made the whole process smoother. My bed frame and dining table were much easier to carry in smaller sections, and there was less risk of damage. I found some practical guides that helped me think more systematically about packing and organizing. For example, while looking up how to pack a bathroom, I came across their article on packing bathroom essentials, and it made me realize that breaking tasks into smaller steps makes moving less stressful overall. I’d say if something is bulky or awkward, disassemble it, keep the screws in labeled bags, and take photos before you start so reassembly is simple.
